The first home that we will work on is that of a believer that has AIDS. Her husband has already died of the disease. She lives in this home with her 13 year old daughter. Their house is uneven and falling apart. They have no wash room and must shower outdoors. The building around their toilet is hardly held together and the termites have nearly destroyed the branches that are the frame. We did not have the camera with us on this visit but we will be working on it with a local builder Wednesday through Friday and you will see photos of the progress.
Next we will be working on the home of Grandma Nung in Ban Daeng. Two sides of her home are just woven bamboo and no longer keep the rain out. We will be putting metal on those sides with a few windows for light. The steps up to the main floor are also nearly completely destroyed from the weather and we will be relocating those under the house so they will be protected. After that we will be doing some work at the location of the meeting location in Ban Daeng. The church meets on the site of a believer's home and so we will be doing some work to make this a nicer facility. The first part of the project is to enclose the kitchen area of the home and provide it a concrete floor. Every Sunday following the service there is a meal so a functional kitchen is very important. The second part involves construction of a restroom facility.
The final construction project that we are involved in is at the home of Pusan. Pusan is a barber with polio who lives close by. He also needs windows and better walls to his home which he shares with his family. It is amazing that he is able to make it to the second floor of his house with his physical problems. However, he is a very active member of the church playing instruments for worship. For all these projects we are hiring local builders who will be in charge of the work. We will be helping them but if we do not have time to complete them it will be their responsibility. Labor in very cheap here and so this is a very good way to complete many projects.
